If you are looking for something to read during the quarantine, I have the perfect suggestion for you! Instead of an article this week, I wanted to share the book Songs of the Caged, Songs of the Free by Adelaida Reyes. Rather than just giving the readers facts or statistics about Vietnamese refugees, she traces the path of music through refugee camps and then resettlement in the United States over the course of the book. Reyes focuses on the types of music in this community as well as the role it played in the refugee experience. This is the perfect opportunity to learn more about what HeartBEATS is rooted in and expand your knowledge of Vietnamese refugees and their stories. I hope that you get the chance to read this wonderful novel!
